What a First App Costs in the UAE (and How to Keep Version One Small)

by Damian Halpe | Oct 29, 2026 | Start-ups and Software

Search for what an app costs in the UAE and you will find answers from a few thousand dirhams to well over a million. Both can be true. They just describe very different products.

One Dubai agency guide, for example, puts a simple app at AED 8,000 to 180,000 and a complex one at AED 440,000 to 1.1 million. Agency guides are marketing material, and that one is not even consistent with itself in other places. Still, the spread tells you something useful: the size of the project matters far more than who builds it.

Why nobody can price an app from one sentence

"An app" can be a booking form with a login, or a marketplace with payments, chat and an admin back office. The word is the same and the work is not. Any provider who quotes you a firm number after a two-line description is either guessing or planning to charge you for changes later.

So the useful question is not "what does an app cost?" It is "what does the smallest version that proves my idea cost?" That one can be answered.

What pushes the price up

  • More types of user. Customers, staff and an administrator each need their own screens. Founders often forget the admin side, and it is real work.
  • Separate iPhone and Android apps. A web app that works well on a phone is usually a much cheaper way to start.
  • Payments, accounts and notifications. Each one is a feature in its own right, with testing and security attached.
  • Integrations. Connecting to your accounting, CRM or ERP system takes time, and the other system's quirks are outside anyone's control.
  • Arabic and English. A right-to-left layout is a build of its own, not a translation setting.
  • Reporting, dashboards and AI features. Valuable, but rarely needed on day one.

How we price a first version

We do not ask you to commit to a large number on the strength of a chat. The route has three steps, and each one is optional:

  • Free call. You tell us what you are building and leave with a rough estimate and our honest view on whether we are the right fit.
  • Scoping session, AED 500 to 750. A two-hour working session and a one-page written brief with a range estimate.
  • Discovery sprint, from AED 3,500. One week of planning that ends in a prioritised feature list, a technical recommendation, a build quote and a timeline.

The scoping session and the sprint are both credited in full against any build, so if you go ahead you have not paid twice. A first version usually takes four to six weeks, and we confirm the date in writing once the scope is agreed. Payment is in three stages: 40% at the start, 30% when the version is ready for your testing, and 30% at launch. Prices exclude 5% VAT, and complex projects can run higher. We will say so on the call.

The cost people forget: after launch

An app is not finished when it goes live. Hosting, your domain, small fixes and the occasional change request carry on for as long as the app does. The same agency guide suggests setting aside 10 to 20% of the build cost each year, which is a reasonable rule of thumb. Whoever you choose, agree what is included in support before you sign, and what happens when that period ends.

A good way to start

Write down one sentence: who uses it, and what they can do on day one that they cannot do today. If that sentence needs the word "and" more than once, the first version is probably too big. Bring it to a call and we will tell you what we think it would take.
